The European Network of Innovative Schools (ENIS) was first established 1999 as a core project in the work of the European Schoolnet (EUN). The aim of the network was to bring together those European schools considered by their ministries as leaders in their use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). These schools provide examples of practice of how to use ICT to improve teaching and learning and to promote innovation and change.
The ENIS network has four specific objectives:
- Dissemination of best practice as reflected in the work and activities of the ENIS schools
- Collaboration projects involving advanced and experienced schools.
- Validation and testing of projects with ministries, universities, industry and other partners in research and development (R&D) projects.
- Innovation and change, building on the experience of the ENIS schools and their willingness to develop further.
Since 1999 there has been much development in the progress of technology and its impact on education. The National ENIS networks have grown in strength as the availability of technology combines with new models for pedagogy and schools are pushing back the frontiers of flexible education solutions for the future.
EUN provides a platform to support the work of the national ENIS networks in their work of exploration of innovation by providing opportunities to become involved in leading edge innovative technological projects funded by the European Comission, such as ValNet, Oasis and Celebrate.
The european ENIS web site showcases the ENIS schools and how they use ICT to improve teaching and learning and has guidance for schools on institutional change, ICT planning and best practice.
Together the ENIS network and EUN will continue to work in partnership to provide examples of the very best of European educational innovation with developing communication technology
